Could be the extension guy is right that for most farmers not willing to do what has been done on your farm can't grow alfalfa worth a darn. Little things I recall like finding the high CEC is great at tying up common nutrients like P and K as you've found by tissue tests that what they consider almost excess your crops consider inadequate.
