S.E. Sask. | Certainly no-till continuous cropping seems to work for my neighbours but I till because it works for me and I have no desire to change. Not too many years ago I was 50% summerfallow , now its about 1/3 summerfallow. I apply NH3 before seeding stubble as it helps to dry the soil in a wet spring and that helps. This spring might be the exception if our weather continues dry but so far it has worked for me.
Yes, I could no till and seed every acre on the farm pouring the maximum in fertilizers and chemicals but not sure if my net profit at the end of the year would be much different. Reduced tillage and chem fallow work well for me. | |
