The only difference between a low carb diet and a low carb ketogenic diet is the level of carb reduction it takes to get any particular individual into nutritional ketosis. The general consensus among experts in the field is for metabolically healthy people 50 grams carbs per day or less and for people with insulin resistance 20 total grams or less. The results are measurable with ketone test strips.
There are very specific ketogenic diets for conditions like for control of epilepsy or in conjunction with cancer treatment, but that is usually doctor prescribed and monitored. They are prescription strength diets the average person probably doesn't need.
