Yes, this is a valid concern.
It really does come down to who you choose to believe and trust as your resource.
I am also a dietitian.
Do I think that the keto diet works for weight loss- yes, I do.
Do I think that the keto diet helps control blood sugars- yes, I do.
Do I think that the keto diet is hard on your kidneys, yes, I do, especially if you have some underlying kidney disease to start with.
The keto crowd on this site is very vocal and want to be "right" although they say they just want to discuss.
But I am with the doctor and dietitian in your family that have reservations about the healthfulness of the keto diet, especially long-term, and especially if you have some underlying kidney issues.
