It certainly does boil down to what and who you want to believe. Gathering your own information and making an educated decision and having that discussion with your doctor is the best option in my opinion. The issue of using statins (or not) is still evolving. You can find research on both sides of the fence on their use. However, what is known to be helpful for the big three chronic diseases (heart disease, cancer, dementia) is that metabolic disease is a big contributor. Overweight/Obesity is another. Exercise and keeping your mind active is another. None of these things require a pill to take that may cause side effects. All would be good lifestyle changes to adopt and as early in your life as possible! As we finish up the leftover Christmas cookies and partake in chips and pizza for New Years, now would be a good time to make a shift in those habits and do whatever you can to achieve those goals. No pills needed for that.
