South Central MN | If there is anything you can do now to avoid problems with a land buyout later, I would do that. If not, you'll have to cross that bridge later. Personally, I would let your sister and your wife speak to them, but do that verbally, not in a text or an email, and also at a time they can remain calm. Sometimes we say things in a text that we wouldn't say verbally, and regret it later. It sure doesn't sound like anything they say now will make the buyout more problematic later - that will be difficult no matter what. Since they are throwing gifts away now, I might remind them that the land would also be a gift - and they should not want to receive a gift from someone they won't have a relationship with now.
