Subject: RE: Colonoscopy

Mazon, IL
There are risks in every medical procedure. Colonoscopies are fairly routine now. I’ve had 3 in 9 years since being diagnosed with rectal cancer in 2013.

My story:

At work on a mid Friday afternoon I start having diarrhea which is actually blood. Every 30 minutes on the toilet. After about 8 hours it stopped (when I went to the ER).

Colonoscopy done a couple weeks later detected cancer. Started chemo and radiation 2 weeks later and had surgery 3 months after initial diagnosis. Followed up up with another 16 weeks of chemo.

If it weren’t for the bleeding I’d have never known. Mine was already at stage 2. Colorectal cancer is a silent killer. Most people don’t know they have it till it’s too late.
