Subject: RE: Soybean seed Germ

Central Missouri
Your state has seed laws that govern what is on the tag. Seed cannot legally be sold without those laws being followed. Normally there is an allowed variance by law on germ that is on the seed tag. Usually on beans about 6% so a seed lot tagged 85 can conceivably have a warm germ as low as 79 from the certifying lab and be tagged 85. Ask them if they did an accelerated aging test. It is a better test of soybean vigor than a standard warm germ. If the aa test is more than 6% less than the warm germ it is a weak seed lot. You can look up the Iowa seed law and read it or call Iowa crop improvement and ask a lot of questions. The director or their registered seed technologist should be able to answer anything about the law.
