I think the towing restriction is more of a software thing than anything. I remember a couple YouTubers that were messing with adding range to a car by towing it with a diesel pickup. Almost would make one believe in perpetual motion if you didn't look into more deeply. I think they added about 3 miles of range by towing it 1 mile. Looks like that capability has been removed for now but it's just an OTA software away from being figured out and allowed again.
Lots of vehicles of all types, on the road that shouldn't be towed and the drivers of those seem to be coping. Doesn't really seem to be a huge problem.
