MN | 1- snaplage is great feed. I think a great ration is 50% snaplage + 25% rolled corn + 25% modified distillers + coproduct balancer liquid. Can play with the ration quite a bit with snaplage base. For example, in our area can get corn screenings most of the time and replace the rolled corn, or feed higher levels of distillers if its cheap. You have plenty of animals to keep a bag of snaplage and a pile of modifieds fresh no problem. No need for any infrastructure like bunkers or silos. I've fed less animals than you have and had almost zero waste on loads of modifieds even in middle of summer.
2- started mine on TMR right away after weaning. Would move calves at weaning to a pen that would offer corn+pellet mix in one trough and the TMR in the other, would move calves out around 300# I suppose to the full TMR pen. Seemed to work fine.
3- if you have custom guys in your area that do snaplage I wouldn't buy the equipment or a bagger just hire it done.
4- could probably finish those crosses on just snaplage and modifieds (or wet cake) like 80% snaplage 20% mods, I know I did... seemed to gain really well actually. Yields for snaplage probably around 9-10ton per acre for those type yields.
