What you said has nothing to do with bins paying for themselves. Literally anyone could have done what you stated with no storage at all. Not to mention handling twice.
Handling twice is a lot more profitable than hauling out of the field to the elevator in the fall and paying excess elevator costs, plus being held captive to price.
all the illinois guys were claiming a week or so ago that the Illinois elevators storage and drying costs are a wash because they like to operate in high volume and have a lot of competition, and by the end of the year you get a big dividend check that nearly covers the actual costs, so there wasn't much incentive for Illinois people to have bins on the home farm. Ironically the original poster is from Illinois.
