The bin didn’t make that, the board did. One could have sold physical corn in the fall and bought July futures to accomplish the same thing. Only basis gain is due to the bin.



Coulda, woulda, shoulda. If you are just gambling on paper, there are a host of things that would have made way more than corn futures. Why even grow the corn? Imagine the money that could have been made taking all that input money last winter and buying all the July corn contracts possible? Just think how prosperous we would all be if none of us grew corn for a year and just bought futures.

What could have been done and what people actually want to do, or are even willing to do, are two different things, as are what is theoretically possible and actually possible.
