Facts are it is very hard to make money on a grain bin in an inverted market. More guys probably cost themselves money storing grain this last year than guys that made money.
Inverted or not it went up every month on the cash side. It was $3 higher at end of april then October. Bin easily paid for itself regardless of how he got there or was used or new. Drying can save 15-20 cents here most years plus less shrink which in itself is enough to pay for system and maintenance. carry to January picks you another 20+ most years if not significantly more past couple. Can they cost you sure but on average they are a good investment at least where we live. Lots of markets we can haul to post harvest that aren’t easy to haul to during harvest. |
