Not typically although I have put grass clippings around the base of emerged plants to eliminate the weeds in the small hole but it isn't a big deal.
I forgot to mention that getting some weight on the fabric all the way around is critical as it blows easily. I have some old sucker rod pieces that are very heavy/ft that work well.
