It helps when the generation before helped them out. I'm still working hard on getting my land paid for as I started with nothing at 28. I'd love for my son to buy ground, but $11K ground isnt the place to start. Lots of other opportunity out there.

And I'm not sure scrimping and working long hours is all that it is cracked up to be...why not take a $100K job and be off most weekends and enjoy life. Yesterday was the nicest day we've had this year and I spent it fixing a stubborn spreader truck, not enjoying the weather a bit. Farmers are so ingrained to work that so many miss the enjoyment that life should bring.


Grass always looks greener on other side of the fence. I spent yesterday and today behind a chain link fence called my day job. Guess what was going through my head? Hmmm it would be nice to be home hauling manure or working on equipment. Instead spent 12 hours making the “stakeholders” money. I spend 1/2 my weekends here and 1/4 of my nights.
