East Central Ia | Looks like your power supply is going to be your limiting factor unless it has been upgraded previously.
The OEM PS is only 280 Watts which is really small, but I shouldn't be surprised since its a repurposed workstation.
Just like anything electric you will want to maintain a constant power usage of %80 or less of that 280 watts. So guessing by your chipset you will need to stay with a Graphics card that pulls 100w or less... Not knowing how hard FFS works the GPU... which I think its gives it a little bit of a workout gauging by how my sons PC runs it.
He also needs an upgraded GPU lol. I built him a computer a couple years ago but to save money I put a GPU out of a old PC of mine in it. Time to pay him for some grain cart work last fall!
Here is a starting point for some options.
I will give you some guidelines to help. It gets a little complicated when trying to upgrade from something that is years old. Virtually anything is an upgrade but often times the older stuff is priced stupid expensive so you are best to move to a entry level component of a newer design which will typically vastly outperform the older generation more expensive part.
Graphics card model numbers will typically be similar to tractors as they will have a number system like this
GTX650/660/67/680 Etc where the second number is of a higher performance and the first set is like the model or generation.
XX30/40/50 Is probably where the cutoff will be for you needing to upgrade your power supply.

Keep in mind that a GPU is the single most expensive component of most PCs.
At some point its money better spent to upgrade Mobo and CPU and then continue to upgrade from there as money/time allows. | |
