Subject: RE: Your ideas for on farm research

Central Alberta
You don't need to hire a scientist, but you should follow scientific principals. I once went to a farmer's research group meeting where they presented their crop trials data. They simply planted one plot of each variety with no replications, then they simply ranked the best ones at the top based on yield.

Some of the agrologists in the room were sniggering a bit, but after the meeting there were a lot of discussions about their methodology, and the next year the trials were being done properly.
