Oh, I don't know. Is Pops going to train the kid how to troubleshoot and fix a modern tractor? Does Pops know how to install and keep an auto-steer setup running? How about a modern closed center hydraulic system? Is Pops able to setup and configure a new computer? How about keeping that new sprayer going? You know how to properly install a duo-cone seal? 
Lots of stuff on a modern farm that either needs an operator capable of understanding and fixing or calibrating, or you pay a tech to come out and then you whine about how much a service call costs.
Sorry but neither I nor the new boss on my farm will agree that his time getting an education and working off farm was a waste.
