the working off the farm deal is stupid... What's going on that the father can't train the kid? You want to send the kid off the farm to see how lazy and worthless most workers are?
either the kid is a farmer or he isn't
I think the original poster's ideas are set up for disaster.

Could not disagree more with your thoughts....working "out"/education opens minds,thought processes,ect....and I know some that came right home to farm to Please there Dad's ,they hated it but didn't want to disappoint.......Farming/education is vastly different today than 50 yrs. ago --good post education in Ag. or tech is invaluable---Would be interesting to hear your kids or Dads perspective
