Subject: RE: Compaction Thoughts

McLeod County, MN
Chisel plow in the fall and field cultivate once in the spring currently. I have lots of residue on top in my fields. Set the row cleaners pretty deep on my planter so I plow a bit of a trench. I rent a brillion packer from the neighbor. Much better than a smooth roller. I dont seem to have much issue with blowing. The notches on the packer help it ride on the ridges and it seems like its just enough to push in the rocks. I think I have enough stalk material and pinned just enough to keep it in place. Happy with what I'm doing. I cringe when I see big black fields and they are hitting them with big smooth rollers.
