I havent read all of the replies, but I always wondered why risk buying over priced land on a 20-40 year mortgage when you can rent it for 1-5 years for a fraction of what the mortgage payment would be.... plus you dont have to pay property taxes.
I invest in educating myself, improving soils, improving technology and adapting to data management systems. Farms in the future which have the best grasp of technology and how their soils function naturally will succeed IMO.
How many successful farms can you name that got that way by renting and not owning?
