We've planted soybeans as early as December. We've planted as much as 25% of our total soybean acres in March when conditions allow. Conditions don't allow every year, but we were ready to roll if they did. "Right" meant soil was dry enough, never worried much about soil temp. We never lost a field planted in December or March for that matter. For our conditions, no way would we consider corn that early.

Soybeans are a lot tougher than some give them credit for.
