Northcentral Kansas
I prefer banding in the soil at planting. I band dry with wheat, corn and milo at planting. I made a low disturbance nh3 applicator about 12 years ago. Was a two man operation to fertilize. One on the tractor and one running tanks. Now we can park a semi load at the field and plant all day. Btw I think I maybe the one who suggested you increase your N rate. This is due to the cover crop using the available nitrogen in the soil to grow. This N won't be available for the next crop. Not because the residue was going to intercept nitrogen that you applied so you should increase you rate regardless of source.
