Saronville NE | I think you could have 40 pair on that pasture, but you just let the calves out on it and drylot the cows, but calves can come back in and get milk, but stay out of the dust so less sick cattle. Put a pencil too it, it can be done and compete with high dollar pasture rent. Just have to find lots of cheap alternatives for feed, take advantage of any and all oppurtunities, like drought silage, straw, CRP hay, cornstalks, bean stubble bales, etc etc. Wean the calves early and then when harvest is done graze the cornstalks. Lots of way to have cows besides the old fashinoned way of only on pasture, use your imagination a little, us small guys have to do that to stay alive. Its called thinking outside the box. | |
