N IL | Most everything around right around here was swamp back in the day and supposedly that is where the bandits of the day hid out/traveled through to stay off the main roads.
A few miles to the west there is an old barn a few hundred yards off of what would have been a major river back then. Supposedly there was a tunnel dug from the barn to the river so they could escape easily. There is one place out in the middle of a pasture that has a headstone that reads: "So and so was buried here with his horse............and his gun" There are also various places where supposedly some very famous bad guys traveled/hid frequently while they were in the area. I could go on and on, there seems to be alot of interested stuff around here. A guy should really get a metal detector and walk around some of these places. | |
