Franklinton, LA
In 1809 my family moved from an area north of Savannah, GA to Spanish West Florida which is now south Mississippi. Spanish government land grants were very generous. You could get a lot more land than what the US Government would allow. The Spanish Government required that all children born in their territory be baptised in the Catholic Church. This was not a problem for a bunch of Baptists because there were no Catholic Churches within 40 miles. This area became part of the US owned Mississippi Territory and later the State of Mississippi within ten years of their arrival.
