East Central Ia | Thanks for the responses! I guess my reasons for being interested in strip tillage are maybe a little different from the normal operators. I don't need it to prepare a nice dry seedbed, except in my corn on corn ground (which is only a few hundred acres a year). I am mostly interested in it for the precise placement of fertilizer. I guess what I am thinking is if I am going to spend the money to get all my fertilizer where I want it, I might as well spend it on a strip till rig. Pretty much the only difference in a strip till rig and a normal applicator that I have seen is that a strip till rig will have some sort of row unit to control depth better.
Am I off base here?
I want to do it in the fall because thats when I have more time and soil conditions are generally better. I want to put everything down in one pass to save on time, fuel, labor, and equipment. I don't like applying nh3 in the spring. If it was just for the tillage aspect of it I would not have a problem doing it in the spring.
I am glad to have this web page to help bounce ideas off each other!
