Gotta admit that thought crossed my mind as well . Could be as simple as the wife doesn't want to be around the family because there is obvious animosity towards her. FWIW, I think the brother is the one to talk to first, privately of course, as he may have some insight into what his wife is thinking or why she is acting the way she does.
