Agent Orange: Friendly fire that keeps on burning.

Pepsi got a new Class 8 truck yesterday and so did their sister company; Frito-Lay. At the delivery event, a timelapse video was shared that showed the un-cut and un-edited (except for speeding it up) 500 mile trip from Fremont, Ca to San Diego, CA. The trip was 500 miles in length and included a half hour break but no stops to recharge or cool down brakes. The truck was the 500 mile range version of the Tesla Semi that packs a 1 MWh, 1,000V battery. Rough math says supercharging the pack should use about $250 worth of electricity. About the same cost as 50 gal. of diesel.
I plotted the route on Google Earth and the elevations covered go from 23 feet in Fremont to 50 feet in San Diego but it includes traversing the Grapevine that summits at 4,140 feet. Hardly what one would call a downhill run. Truck had a GVW of 81,000 lbs. and seemed to mostly obey the speed limits along the route. Truck is powered by three motors just like are used in the Model S Plaid sedan.
Rumors are, the upcoming pickup will also use 1,000V architecture. Range of the pickup has yet to be announced but I would guess 500 miles while towing wouldn't be out of the question
