Owning a hog finishing barn and contract finishing for an integrator is actually the lowest return on the totem pole. I think Kooiker summed it up with a catchy phrasing a while back but I don't remember where.
However like you say it is the only thing working now.
There is no worse feeling than independently farrow to finish pigs and burning equity the whole time. Crop guys don't get it - its not the same as losing money cropping.
