| It is absolutely diversification. But then again so is an off farm job. Diversification is a broad brush. I know I'd rather raise hogs than work in town. I happen to do both.
How long is payoff on new barn? Do you own the manure equipment already or could you get some? I find the more manure you have, the easier it is to justify the equipment and the less you want to rely on a custom guy. Those would be the 2 biggest holdups in my mind, along with the labor. I'd say if you already have 1000 you know what you're signing up for. | |
