Subject: RE: Hog Finishing Expansion During Low Commodity Prices

If you're only finishing 1000 head, you can't justify a bunch of equipment. I can't really justify mine other than I needed to save some on taxes. Worked out because I've found some custom work and rent the tanker out 2 or 3 times a year to a couple guys. With fertilizer savings, it's almost the most profitable piece I have.

12 year payoff makes me wince a little. I am on 15 year loan, but wanted the elbow room in case something got ugly. Working on a 10 year payoff so I'm not taking anything off it but the cash flow works and I don't need any operating money to make it happen. I have permit application at state EPA office right now, but I'm not sure how I feel about the payoff getting longer and longer. Told myself I'd like to actually make money up front if I built again. When I first built I figured I could pay it off in 15 and make about 20k/barn/year. That's not there now.
