Subject: Sows vs finishers vs farrow finish

What looks like the best route for someone going forward and remaining independent?

Do many of them big ops buy isoweans or are the pigs they are having contract finished coming strictly from sows they own?

Of course if I were to go strictly sow or strictly finish I would run a lot more of one. Not saying I want to change anything we're doing now, just thoughts that run through my head.

And johnny I love farrowing and processing litters and really don't mind powerwashing. Standing there breeding sows though is to dang boring for me. We're in a fairly good area not to dense pig population. A lot of thirty to forty year old barns thin them out in the next ten years and it looks even better....but maschoffs are trying hard to get guys to build for them so that could change things. Christiansen and pillen are an hour from here in counties with looser setbacks.
