Northern Illinois | One thing that is different is land ownership. With hogs and poultry anyone could throw up a building as long as they had neighbors willing to take the crap. With grain farming it will take a long time for anyone to get ownership.
I have thought it is a blessing that I have daughters who are not interested in farming. I live on a centennial farm but will be the last generation that farms. I think today that if someone does not have a land base they should get out yesterday. I am 55 and started renting a 320 and have livestock. Today I farm about 1000 acres and am a small guy. I would think in 20-25 ears the number of acres per farmer will grow at an alarming rate. As stated I am 55 and don't see myself buying another tractor or combine. Thankfully my father had me take out an agibond loan to buy farmland right out of college. | |
