960 pencils is the bare minimum for a class of 20 students?

I could tolerate the demands for "good" pencils if they asked for a reasonable number of them. If a kid can't get a couple weeks out of a pencil in a class that barely has any handwriting anyway, they need to bring more to school as they need them. I'd be all for them buying premium Dixon or Eagle or whatever brand by the crate and selling them at cost in the office. Maybe the kids would think twice about breaking and abusing or whatever they are doing to waste their pencils.

But we know that will never happen because the "poor" kids can't afford to buy them.

It just seems like we are facilitating wasteful behavior all over society today.
