Maybe it's a "here" thing. All the school supplies go into a closet and are handed out to each student, basically ensuring that even those who can't afford them are able to have them. Last year it was about $50 per each of my kids. Pretty cheap, and I'm glad that the less fortunate ones are taken care of.
