Well I have to agree on not using cheap Chinese pencils. Those things are terrible and the lead breaks all the time when you sharpen them. My wife is a retired 1st grade teacher and I know bad pencils can be a problem when you have 26 six year old children with ants in their pants.
So give the kid and the teacher a break and go for the Ticonderoga made in the USA pencils.
