I would really like to know what costs are involved to justify $20k per night stay in the hospital. Or $9k for a disposable drill for putting pins in a bone.
Most people realize that hospitals have expenses. I think the biggest part of the problem is companies that make medical supplies. Many have monopolized their business and charge outrageous prices for their products just because they are "medical".
You seem to think pretty highly of hospitals. Yes, they do some good things but are definitely not without fault. Especially towards employees. My wife works at a major hospital. They don't even give holiday pay to employees. If she is scheduled to work on a holiday, she is forced to use her PTO to get paid that day. So basically she has to use her paid time off to go to work on a holiday.
Then there is community donations. The hospital system doesn't like to donate money to the community so they ask that employees donate their own money in the hospitals name.
The medical industry is no different than any other large monopolized industry. There is basically no competition so they can charge whatever they want. Customers mean nothing and $$ means everything. Not saying there isn't some very good ones, especially the children's hospitals, but most of the rest fit the above description.
the bone drill we bought the hospital in St. Louis was $15,000 2 years ago.
