Subject: RE: Cutting expenses

Amherst WI
I watched that 80's video yesterday and I think the one farmer mentioned $1.14 for a box of corn flakes. Now that same box is around $4, and there is $.10 of corn in it VS $.05 back then.

I redid some hydraulic couplers on a tractor yesterday, four banks, a switch and warning light for that tractor was $21xx.00. That's well over 40 acres worth of profit with the way this year look just to pay for those parts on that one repair. I even shopped around and got them for less than local too so it wouldn't be 50 acres of profit. It's really numbing when I think the first "big" tractor I bought was $3500 in 2002.

I don't know what the answer is, but having 60% of farm families working a second job just to feed their own family is BS too.
