To young to say I know the 80's but the real question is whether crops were profitable at that time if you carried little debt? I see now and then totally different back in the 80's it seems like if you didn't have a lot of debt and paid as you went you could afford to go buy a 4440( lord knows they sold a lot of those at the time) so things were profitable minus interest. Now we are below cost of production if you have everything paid for or not. So that guy in the 80's with no debt was making money now in the same situation that guy is farming his net worth down.
I think now would be easier to weather out the storm for someone young as land values are still stable, equipment seems to have bottomed, interest is low, it is just cost of living that is hard to bring in control.
