Subject: aging in a rural area

Hello all. I guess this might be what you call a "rant" so to speak. but maybe some of you have run into this, or going thru it now too.
my mom is in her 70's. my dad passed away several years ago. She worked in the healthcare field for many many years. Her shift was durning the
day and didn't get a lot of weekends off. so, she didn't go to church that much. while she believes, she doesn't get along with the churchs,
since some of the old ladys have been rude.....Also she says she wants to enjoy life, since worked so hard for years....you go to church and all
they talk about is dying......she said she has seen enough of that. For many years when it was her day off, she just wanted to relax, and not be
around people, saying she just got tired of people once in a while.
But here is the problem......she is in a "smaller" town......but I would consider it dead.....which kind of makes me mad........they have programs on the
tax rolls that don't seem to do do much.........let's see, senior center open from 11 am to 1 pm, maybe bingo a couple times a week....the food, a tablespoon
of this and table spoon of that......then nothing to do.....they don't play cards, etc, etc...no nightly bingo.....oh, the gal at senior center told me that
a bunch of the ladys get together at the country club to play cards once a week......well memberhip to country club is $60 a month.....so it's a nicecy
nice outfit, and most out there have their noses up in the air. The church's don't have activities......they do for kids, but nothing for elders,
and there are a few of them around, since it is a rural small town.
it's basicly dead. the ladys in her age have walkers and canes and basicly looking forward to die......my mom just keeps going. she says she has seen it time
and time again, either keep busy, or die.

i'm considering getting her a place in a bigger town 50 miles away......they have an active senior center from 8 am to 4 pm, they have movie theaters (10 of them)
and seniors get in for $4, they have on call senior transport for $2........they have major name shopping....a larger hospital, with specialists, they have bingo every
night...there is even a senior dance once a week. They have a big fitness center with several pools, and all sorts of stuff....have cheaper groc...the town
she is at now, has only 1 and is high.

so what to do ??? she will have nothing to do with ""assisted living""...she calls it assisted living for the outfit that owns it, they just take your money (which is
kind of true)....plus she does not need assistance.

so what do you do............either enjoy life........or wait for god ?????
