i didnt read all of the replies, and dont take this the wrong way, if the boy really wanted to farm i would think he would already have a financial stake in farming already, if he hasnt already taken some risk or tried to rent or buy ground or livestock or something his heart probably isnt in it. i think to farm successfully at any point in history or now you have to have that burning desire and passion to farm wether or not anyone pressured you or not. this might not make sense its hard to put it into words maybe, but if you want to farm bad enough your going to do it even if your parents discourage you from that kind of life. i really do believe it takes passion and drive that unmistakably points to being a farmer that carries operations to the next generation. again this is my just my opinion so take what you want from it. i guess to me there was never a question about it, i wanted to farm there was nothing going to sway me either way.
