| Not easy bringing a son into the operation. You're going to have to be willing to listen to his ideas, something I had a hard time doing, especially when I had already tried it & it didn't work. Believe me, there will be plenty of disagreements sometimes hell be right, sometimes you, & sometimes neither. MY son worked off the farm at first and after a few years came into the farm full time. We're a little different settup as he has his ground he owns / rents & I have mine but we own the equipment together & work together. As I get closer to retirement age I have given him more responsibility to the point I'm basically a ground pounder but do market my crops. It was tough for awhile, I lost my uncle that raised me in '71 when I was 19, and been o my own since. Proudest day of my life was this all watching my son shell corn, my grandson run the auger cart while I was driving the semis. That day made all the trying times worth it. Hope everything works out for you & your son. | |
