If I'm remembering correctly they've tried fracking in Europe (Poland specifically) and China but the rock is different and it hasn't worked out. If there were other promising areas I would guess we'd have heard about them by now.
Columbia made the news recently by fast-tracking environmental regulations in regards to hydraulic fracturing. I don't have a very educated opinion, but I do not think it's something that will be limited to North America at all. It's just plain more expensive to extract than the known Middle East reserves so if the price doesn't support fracking, those shale oil reserves will stay being reserves. |
