That is the theory but in dry conditions, it doesn't ground very well because the chain cannot make a good ground against dry soil. If you notill, you have all of that residue that will probably keep the chain from grounding. In my experience, it was questionable if it even helped keep the dirt off of the windows. If you really want to ground the combine, i would suggest dragging a chisel shank from the back axle.
