Subject: RE: Fires - JD 9000 Series Combines - Have Some Questions

Nevada, Iowa
First off, according to my insurance agent, both the primary countershaft gearcase drive shaft (the one that goes thru the grain tank) and the primary countershaft itself(the one that goes from left to right behind the cab and above the cylinder) are both suspect areas for fires to start. Just blow and or wash these areas out well and often. Remove the shield in the grain tank and clean it out and this exposes more area behind the pri. shaft gearcase. Good time to grease the u joints.

I do have an '89 9500 and to my recollection there is no shield on the primary countershaft. Not really sure why you would need one?
