how do I convince sisters the safest place for our 83 year old mother is at assisted living , they both live 223 miles away and I am 7 miles. Mother had a health condition that put in her the hospital as a result of dehydration and small intestine blockage and had surgery. She has early stage Alzheimer's and a result is doctor said no more driving. She has lost 20 lbs in a year due to forgetting to eat of having a piece of bread and jam for a meal. Since in assisted living she had gained 8 lbs due to eating 3 good meals a day. She cannot keep her meds straight.

Long story but result is she is in assisted living now getting healthy, and my sisters want to take her home after 60 days, but my wife and I feel the best place for her is the assisted living . It is not a nursing home'. So how do I convince them mother is in a good safe place. Or do I use my power of attorney and just do it.

Tough situation. My family is approaching a similar scenario. Fortunately one sister is close and another is able to come frequently. I do what I can but it's tough this time of year.

If they don't want to come and stay with her and/or hire some help (don't know if that's in the cards financially) then she will be better off at assisted living. Another thing to consider is at assisted living she will get to be in a social situation with others her age. I think that's better than being home alone or with intermittent company. Good luck. It's not a fun situation.

Edit to add. Does she seem happy? If so there's your answer.
