I think what farm kids sometimes don't understand is that farming is a job just like any other job. Yes it is a wonderful way of life but we wouldn't do it if it didn't make money which is why people go to their jobs everyday. While much of the knowledge that is needed to farm is hands on learning, a farmer still needs to be a well rounded, educated person. In days past, a farmer sometimes was portrayed as an undeducated country bumpkin. I think some 'city' people may still think that. We all know exactly how talented a farmer has to be. Whether it be when talking to the banker or when out in public, a farmer needs to be able to discuss more than farming so we can break the "hillbilly" stereotype. In addition to that, the days of farming being all physical work are gone. You can no longer fly by the seat of your pants when making decision or keeping farming/financial records. Every decision is crucial to the future of your farm so school is more important than ever.
