Subject: RE: Cover crops-Guys NCIowa and Southern MN

East Central, NE
I've been flying on cereal rye in standing corn and turnips/radishes in standing beans the past 2 years with no so great results. Mainly this has been due to a lack of rainfall after they've been flown on so by the time it does rain and germinate them it is already late September/early Oct. The plants only get a couple inches tall and then freeze. The cereal rye does come back pretty good in the spring but I terminate it before planting so it still doesn't get much growth on. The radishes/turnips really don't come back much the next spring.

I flew on cereal rye about 10 days ago and have had ample moisture for germination so if I don't get good results this year then I will say it just isn't meant to be.
