Subject: RE: Lowering Costs In A Down Market

Michigan - Saginaw County
Badfarmer, good questions.
First, I did not know then what I know now - man, you talk about greener than grass and dumber than a box of rocks - that's me
I do not have crop insurance so that is not an factor in my decision making
Adjoining land - convenient but not a critical factor Our other fields are away and we don't mind
(your argument that adjoining land only comes around once a lifetime is right on - but land in general seems to come available about every third week around here)
the bigger issue is soil quality. That field is poor quality soil (due in a good part to 20 years of mining) and when I spend good dollars on land I want NO I need fertility in return
Seems to me that Ed commented he spent like 10 years getting some of his ground to be productive
Just think where he would be had he put that time, sweat, and money into good soil right from the git go - eh Ed?
As far as my son, he believes in positive cash flow even more than I do and seems happy with what we are doing so far
I am watching for land, but I want good land
